Introduction

Installing carbon fiber aerodynamic components correctly is essential for both aesthetics and long-term durability. At Revozport, every part is designed to fit precisely, but proper surface prep and bonding ensure it stays secure under high-speed loads, vibration, and heat.
The following guide explains how to achieve a professional-grade installation using premium automotive tape systems such as 3M VHB.

Why Use 3M VHB Tape

  • Very High Bond strength: Closed-cell acrylic foam adhesive conforms to micro-surface irregularities for maximum grip.
  • Durability: Resistant to heat, UV, moisture, vibration, and chemicals.
  • Clean finish: Eliminates visible hardware and reduces the need for drilling.

Pre-Installation: Surface Preparation

  1. Ambient and Surface Conditions
    • Ideal substrate temperature: 60 °F – 80 °F (15 – 27 °C).
    • Avoid freshly painted or wrapped surfaces until fully cured.
  2. Clean Thoroughly
    • Wipe both bonding surfaces with a 50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol and water.
    • For oily or dirty areas, clean first with a degreaser, then finish with IPA.
    • Use only lint-free towels to prevent residue.
  3. (Optional) Abrade or Prime
    • On very smooth or coated surfaces, light abrasion or an adhesion promoter (e.g., 3M Primer 94) improves bond strength.
    • Check compatibility with paint protection film (PPF) before using primer.
  4. Mask and Align
    • Use blue painter’s tape to mark alignment and protect adjacent paint.
    • Mask any areas where tape should not contact.

Tape Application & Installation

  1. Cut and Apply Tape, if not already installed by Revozport
    • Select correct width/series for the part.
    • Apply without stretching; use a roller or firm pressure (~15 psi) for full contact.
    • Trim edges flush with a sharp blade.
  2. Remove Liner & Align Part
    • Peel 1–2 inches of liner at each end let it hang loose.
    • Hold the part in place, then pull the liner out slowly while pressing the part into position.
    • Once the tape contacts, repositioning is not possible.
  3. Apply Final Pressure
    • Roll or press evenly across all surfaces.
    • Ensure corners and edges are fully seated.
    • Support larger parts with painter’s tape or temporary straps.
  4. Curing Time
    • 20 min ≈ 50 % bond
    • 24 h ≈ 90 % bond
    • 72 h ≈ 100 % bond
    • Optional: moderate heat (~65 °C for 1 h) accelerates curing.
    • Avoid high-pressure washing or track use for at least 72 h.

Removal & Re-installation

  • Use fishing line or nylon cord in a sawing motion to separate the part from the panel.
  • Remove residue with a rubber eraser wheel, or your fingers; finish with an IPA wipe.
  • Always use new tape when reinstalling and repeat full prep steps.

Revozport-Specific Tips

  • Revozport parts typically include pre-applied VHB tape for consistent adhesion.
  • For curved surfaces, use multiple narrow strips for even pressure and flexibility.
  • Ensure full contact along the bonding area to prevent lifting at high speed.
